Ford unveils Focus in wagon version for Europe
In Europe, Ford says its Focus has always been popular as a wagon. So at the Geneva Motor Show, Ford is showing the continentals what to expect for the next generation.
Americans have turned their backs on station wagons. But Ford says in Europe, they make up a third of subcompact sales. In Germany and Italy, it's more like half of those sales.
One of the features of the new Focus wagon, which is unlikely to come to the U.S. where crossovers are the preferred family hauler, is a self-closing tailgate.
The new Focus will also deliver leading levels of fuel economy and low carbon emissions, the automaker pledges. It will come with either a new 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbocharged engine or newly improved turbo-diesel.
"With new safety technologies like low-speed collision mitigation and lane departure warning, plus extensive use of high-strength steels, the new Focus will also make significant strides in safety – another priority for our customers," Ford says.
